Sun Yat-Sen (1866-1925)

-Sun Yat-Sen was the first president of the Republic of China (now Taiwan) and the first leader of the GMD 

​

-He is widely revered in both China and Taiwan and referred to as as the "Father of the Nation" for his revolution against the Manchu rule under the Qing Dynasty

​

-He comes from Guangzhou in southern China where he began his revolutions but few know that he studied English in Honolulu Hawaii

​

-Sun is a very unique figure gaining respect from both mainland China and Taiwan because of the emphasis on nationalism and revolution against the foreign ruling Qing Dynasty.
