

1895 - China is defeated in the Sino-Japanese War, Warlords regain control of southern China
1898- Boxer Rebellion, China declares war on all foriegn powers in China
1911-1912 - Sun Yat-sen forms the Nationalist Party
1914 - May 4th movement reshapes China's cultural and national identity
1923 - Sun Yat-sen gains support from Soviet for his army the GMD
1924 - Sun Yat-sen sends Chiang Kai-shek to Soviet union to study military strategy
1925 - Sun Yat-sen dies and Chiang Kai-shek returns to lead the GMD
1926 - GMD army consists of 100,000 men and 200,000 GMD party members
- Chinese Communist Party grows to 20,000 members, some in the GMD
1927 - GMD purges CCP members and established the capital in Nanjing
1928 - Chiang Kai-shek's army takes Beijing from nothern Warlords, begins construction on Sun Yat-sen's Mausoleum
1930 - Chiang Kai-shek defeats the remaining northern war lords and re-establishes China after the fall of the Qing Empire
1931 - Japanese officers in the north claim independence up to the great wall
1934 - The new life movement begins to restore confucian values in society
-The start of the long march, 90,000 soldiers travel 6,000 miles, only 20,000 survive
1936- Chiang Kai-shek is captured on visit to Xian until coerced to unite with CCP and drive out remaining Japanese
1937 - GMD is officially recognized as the National Government of China by US and Soviets
-Mao represents himself as the successor of Sun Yat-sen
1938 - Chiang Kai-shek is made president and dictator of the GMD
- Japan flees and takes Guang Zhou and Wuhan
-GMD establises new capital in ChongChing
-CCP rebuilds in remote western province of ShaanXi
1945 - Allies force Japan to surrender to GMD and helps retake coastal cities
-GMD army is 3x the CCP, CCP party grows from 40k to 1.2mil in 8 years
1946 - Chinese Civil war begins
1947 - GMD captures ShaanXi province while CCP captures northern China and abandoned military equiptment
1949 - Beijing, Tianjing, and Manchuria overtaken by the CCP
-CCP take Nanjing and Shanghai forcing Chiang Kai-shek to flee to taiwain with 2 million other Chinese
1953 -Mao establishes Five Year Plan
1976 - Mao Dies
